Our story
We opened just before the pandemic. It closed us. We came back.
MAPLES began with a simple conviction: Canadians should be able to buy directly from other Canadians — the maker two streets over, the farm just outside town, the small shop that ships across the country.
In 2019, we opened our first Made in Canada marketplace to bring Canadians closer together and support businesses here at home. The pandemic later forced us to close, but our vision never went away. Now, with a renewed identity and fresh energy, we're preparing to open our doors again as MAPLES.
The vision never went away. Buying Canadian was never a trend — it was a way of staying close to the people who grow, make and mend things near us, and of bringing Canadians a little closer to one another.
“We don't want to be the biggest marketplace in the world. We want to be the closest one to home.”
So we came back: to relaunch, to rebrand, and to finally offer the thing we set out to build in the first place — only better. MAPLES is that same idea, carrying everything we learned the hard way.
A marketplace where independent Canadian sellers list their goods, where growers, makers and event hosts publish where to find them in person, and where a cozy Canadian getaway is as easy to book as a pair of socks.
What's different now
Canadian, and checked
Every seller shows a Canadian business address and a business or GST/HST number before a single listing goes up.
Local, not just shipped
Farm stands, pop-up markets, artist studios, neighbourhood services and vacation rentals sit right beside the product catalogue.
Built for Canada, only
Canadian shipping addresses, prices in CAD, GST/HST, PST or QST by province, 30-day returns and privacy that meets PIPEDA.
Easier to ask
Ask MAPLES, our assistant, answers in English or French and points you to the product, the farm stand or the cottage that fits what you asked for.
We're still recovering pages from our first site. The photographs, the very first listings and our original name will find their way onto this page — it will grow as the story does.
